The City of Oakland Park, located in the geographic center of South Florida, was incorporated as the City of Floranada in 1925. Four years later, it became known as the City of Oakland Park.

SPECIAL EVENTS

	Dr. Carter G. Woodson Festival Established in 2006 to honor the historical significance of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an African-American historian, author and educator.
	Easter Oakland Park Fire-Rescue holds an annual Easter Egg Hunt activity in a City park.
	Halloween The Parks and Leisure Services Department holds s "costume contest" for children and adults, as well as a haunted house at Wimberly Field.
	Holiday Events The Parks and Leisure Services Departments host an annual "Evening with Santa" and arranges for "Santa's Phone Calls" to young residents.
	Oktoberfest Oakland Park hosts the largest Oktoberfest in Broward/Dade counties the first weekend of October.
	Youth Day An Oakland Park tradition started more than 50 years ago that includes the longest-running parade in Broward County.
