The City of Oakland Park, located in the geographic center of South Florida, was incorporated as the City of Floranada in 1925. Four years later, it became known as the City of Oakland Park.

The Oakland Park City Commission entered into a contract for police services with the Broward Sheriff's Office on August 1, 2000. The BSO/Oakland Park District provides police services for the City's 8.04 square miles divided into 14 patrol zones.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up for Neighborhood Safety Alerts and other advisories from the BSO/Oakland Park District via the BSO CyberVisor Alert program.
