Commercial garbage is collected at least twice weekly and on all holidays falling within the normal work week (Monday - Friday), except for Christmas Day. Customers, depending on their waste generation, will use either 96-gallon carts or dumpsters (large metal containers) of adequate size for their collection needs. The size and type of receptacle will be determined by the Solid Waste Division.
Commercial Cart Service:
Commercial Customers must, at a minimum, subscribe to 96-gallon cart service. All rules governing
residential collection apply. Collection days are either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/ Friday depending on your address.
See Cart Collection section for more information.
Commercial Dumpster Service:
Collection day(s) are based upon the service schedule established by the Solid Waste Division
and take into account such factors as service location, the type and/or amount of waste generated and the number of
collections needed per week. Dumpster collection is performed using the latest advances in solid waste service technology
which has allowed us to develop the most accurate and fair system of charges for these services. Our weight-based
system of collection enables the City to provide our customers with documented confirmation of collection activities,
including time(s) of collection and the weight of materials collected. See Dumpster Collection section for more information.
How it works...
After opening an account our Solid Waste representative will determine the appropriate size
container you will need. Our dumpsters have "RFID tags" (transponders) which work in conjunction with special
on-board computers to record truck arrival time as well as the weight of the garbage collected. This is accomplished
through the use of electronic scales on the front of the vehicle's collection arms. The on-board computer records
the weight (in pounds), the collection time and the transponder number and associates all three pieces of data as
a service event. At the end of the collection day this information is downloaded directly from the collection vehicle
into our central computer. At the end of each month your utility account is summarized, including both the charge
for collection and the charge for disposal. You will see this reflected on your monthly utility bill.
